Strategic Partnering, Licensing and IP Strategies, the first meeting of 2014 for the Boston IEE Consultants Network (CNET), features a panel with extensive experience in the legal and business issues faced by technology companies and their founders including strategies used to protect those rights while expanding the business. The attorneys on the panel have provided counsel for the wide variety of practical situations which all entrepreneurs face. Whether it involves the legal issues of protection and licensing of intellectual property or day-to-day issues like increasing sales, the panel will share the benefits of their experience.

Kuangshin Tai - Wolf Greenfield and Sacks, PC, www.wolfgreenfield.com
Kuangshin Tai assists the firm with patent prosecution in the areas of mechanical arts, clean energy and materials science. As a doctoral candidate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Kuangshin conducted nanomechanical research in bone to produce novel theories for bio-mineralized systems on nanoscale heterogeneity, energy dissipation, and cohesive-frictional behavior. He has served as a research intern for the Materials Processing Center at the Center for Materials Science and Engineering, working on the development of polymer gel sensors and actuators that harnessed optical phase and swelling transition properties in variants of N-isopropylacrylamide.
As a research student, Kuangshin had a broad exposure to engineering and the medical sciences, from developing a DNA vaccine for testing in animal models, to creating a photo-optical device with cross-correlating signals used for measuring speed from photosensors fixed onto a ski. Kuangshin has authored numerous scientific publications appearing in journals such as Nature Materials, Nano Letters, Journal of Biomechanics, and Tissue Engineering.

Dan McCafferty, VP, Sales & Corporate Development, AMD Telemedicine
Dan is currently the VP of Global Sales & Corporate Development at AMD Telemedicine Inc. His responsibilities at AMD include developing strategic partnerships worldwide that include fortune 100 companies such as Cisco Systems & Seimens. He brings a diverse and deep background in business operations to the leadership of AMD.
Dan's twenty five (25) year career has included senior roles in Manufacturing Operations, Marketing, Sales, Business Development and Professional Services at Aspect Communications (formerly Davox Corp.), Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products, Telekol (acquired by Nokia) and most recently as the President/CEO of SteelTorch Software.
The common theme throughout Dan's career has been one of driving growth for technology based, telecommunications related companies with high value product propositions. Dan's vision and drive saw Lernout & Hauspie's North American Telecom market sales rise 250% year to year, Telekol to be acquired by Nokia and SteelTorch to acquire a European competitor in a cash accretive transaction.
