Event Description:

IEEE CNET Consultants Larry Nelson Sr. and Mark Fitzgerald will discuss how to be an effective consultant and run a consulting business.  Topics: becoming a consultant, diversification of your consulting business and keeping a steady cash flow, PE Licenses pros and cons, whether to incorporate your business and have direct clients (C2C) or go W2 through an agency, issues that are common to the consulting business, revenue stream and billing, types of business and liability insurance, among other topics.  We also welcome your questions.


This talk covers information that engineers may find useful in a career choice of whether to become a consultant and run a consulting business.



Speaker Biographies:

Larry Nelson Sr:

Larry Nelson Sr. PE DFE has been a consultant since 1980 and provides electronics design services as well as technical training and Expert Witness Services. He has several patents and has published several articles of both a technical nature and about consulting. He holds a PE license in MASS and is a member of NAFE (the National Academy of Forensic Engineers).


Mark Fitzgerald:

Mark Fitzgerald has been a consultant since 1993.  Mark established Silver Bullet Engineering, Inc. providing electronics design in both hardware and software, and project management / Agile ScrumMaster, specializing in medical devices (IEC-62304), safety standard designs (IEC-61508).  Networking and Control Systems are also a specialty. Silver Bullet Engineering, Inc. is a C2C provider and insured. Mark has several patents and has published several technical manuals. He is an IEEE and CNET member.
