Protecting Your IP in a Client-Centered Scenario

Consultants have limited rights in legally protecting the IP they have developed for clients. We will focus on some of the issues the consultant faces:

• Differentiating among the IP you have developed for clients, your proprietary IP, and the IP the client owns and is paying to own.
  
• Particular requirements of start-ups
  
• Protecting the IP you have developed for clients by releasing
  
• rights only upon payments
• How to protect your underlying proprietary IP
• Protection via provisional patents
• Protection via patents

About the Presenter:

Audrey represents entrepreneurs, company executives, seed investors, and venture capitalists and has done so successfully for almost three decades, helping to bring young companies to profitability and maturity. In 2005, Audrey formed Convergent GC, LLC,a legal services firm with a unique business model. Before that, Audrey was a partner and head of the Private Equity/Emerging Company group at Sullivan & Worcester LLP, partner and member of the Private Equity group at Goodwin Procter LLP, and partner and chair of the Venture Capital and
Emerging Companies group at Kelley Drye LLP.

Audrey has a J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and co-managing editor for the Human Rights Law Review, and a B.A. from City University of New York, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is a member of the Massachusetts and New York bars.
